Why You Should Visit Budapest

If you ever are given the opportunity to travel to Europe, you should most definitely give Budapest a visit!

Yes, there are other great places like Paris, Milan, Berlin, and Dublin that are a “must” among many European travelers (myself included), but out of all of these locations, Budapest was my favorite trip of all!

It is the place to go if you are college student wanting to travel on a budget, and want to make the most of your experience.

Here are a few reasons why I believe it is ESSENTIAL to visit Budapest.

THE ARCHITECTURE

I think these pictures speak for themselves … Budapest is a quintessential location for viewing old European architecture and seeing A LOT OF IT!

There is something for everyone and it is the ultimate place for Instagram pictures! When I first planned my trip to Budapest, I never would have imagined their architecture would be this breathtaking or elaborate.

But as you will learn, Hungary has a long history of integrating many cultures into its history so you can visibly see the influence of a multitude of different countries.

THE BATHS

When you think Budapest, the luxurious bath houses must come to mind. Public bathing, in ancient times, was a common practice to sooth aching muscles and aid with all kinds of ailments. This still holds true today and the bath houses in Budapest are an absolute dream!

At the Szechenyi Geyogyfurdo Bath House, if you spend about $40, it will get you all access to the 18 separate baths they offer (including the one in the picture), a tour of the facilities, and access to the VIP lounge where you can enjoy unlimited tea, mineral water, and fruit!

It is truly a unique experience that is hard to find anywhere else in the world. It detoxes the body and is so relaxing that you feel like a brand new person after spending a couple of hours soaking up the healing waters … definitely worth it!

THE FOOD and MARKETS

While Budapest may not come to mind when you think of the world’s top cuisine destinations, I definitely think it should be! Keep in mind, however, Hungarian food is not recommended for the vegetarians out there. Coming to Europe, I actually gave up my nine years as a vegetarian so that I could get the full culinary experience in my time here.

It is not impossible to stay vegetarian, but you will miss out on a lot of traditional foods, like what Hungary can offer — like Goulash for instance: it is a beef stew eaten with a very thick noodle, but it is fantastic! Budapest is full of a variety of cafes and restaurants that range from very posh to very casual/family style … so it has something for everyone!

And the street markets are fun to visit to experience Hungarian culture at its finest. There are tons of vendors on the weekends selling fresh fruits, vegetables, meats, spices, and pastries of every kind!

It is a great place to try local cuisine, as well, since there are also lots of street food vendors selling cheap, but absolutely delicious street foods. Basically these street markets are a foodies dream come true.

THE MUSEUMS

If you are into art museums and old architecture, Budapest is the place for you. They definitely pride themselves on the creative minds that have graced Budapest’s history and they are more than happy to let everyone know about it.

From the Hungarian National Museum (renowned for its art collection) to the Opera House, tourists and locals alike cannot deny the beauty that each of these sites has and how much you can learn from each of them. Each has a rich history of Hungarian culture and each houses a unique welcoming that can only be found in Budapest.

I can only talk about how much I love Budapest so much, because words cannot describe how amazing it is and pictures fail in comparison to the real thing! It is definitely one of those places that you must experience for yourself; if you are ever given the opportunity, make Budapest one of your next travel destinations!
